NEWCASTLE AIRPORT FOREIGN AIRLINE CHARTER TIMETABLE SUMMER 2008

Summer 2008 sees a possibly slightly more interesting foreign charter programme than in recent years with a fairly good selection of carriers. The highlight should be the Sunday afternoon Naples series flown by Italian carrier Air Bee whose current fleet would appear to consist of a trio of ex-Alitalia MD.82s operated by Itali Airlines (Itali Airlines' three-letter ICAO code ACL is only assumed to be used for these flights as we go to press). More 'mad dogs' return courtesy of a Friday evening Heraklion series flown by Viking Airways - although their current fleet would seem to consist of just one aeroplane so variety may be lacking somewhat on this one - while more modern equipment will be seen thanks to the very welcome return of Iberworld to Newcastle Airport on a late Saturday Las Palmas rotation. The pick of the rest - mainly a plethora of Turkish flights again - is the short Salzburg series scheduled to be flown by Austrian Airlines Airbus A.320s, a series which on past experience may not occur, although the fact that it becomes a based Thomsonfly Boeing 737-800 'op' wef 14th June may indicate that this one may actually happen this year.

This programme is correct with information known at 11th April, and of course is subject to change (all times local) - as with previous programmes there will be additions to the below, while some flights may not occur at all.

Another Italian carrier will be the highlight of the usual start of season/end of season short series, Mistral Air operating a single Palermo holiday during late May with Boeing 737-300s (21/5 MSA9360/4361 ABZ-PMO 1345-1435 / 28/5 MSA4360/9360 PMO-JER 1140-1230), while Travel Service Boeing 737-800s will re-appear on some more usual Verona flights (8/6 TVS119/120 PRG-VRN 0730-0830 /15/6 TVS123/124 VRN-PRG 2110-2210 / 5/10 TVS119/120 PRG-VRN 0615-0715 / 12/10 TVS123/124 VRN-PRG 2125-2225).

The only non-based UK charter carrier series' are the now usual Sunday Venice operation flown by bmi Airbus A.319s, while Trans-Atlantic charters will be flown by Monarch Airlines Airbus A.330-200s (Cancun/Puerta Plata fortnightly FRI/SUN, Sanford SAT/SUN) and Thomsonfly Boeing 767-300s (Cancun MON/TUE, Sanford SAT/SUN, Punta Cana SUN/MON).

Based charter units are expected to be down significantly on last year: TCX 2xB757, TOM 2xB757 & 1xB738, XLA 1xB738.
